Special General Education Night Program (SGENP)
About the Program
Special General Education Night Program is a two-year self-liquidating program of MSU-IIT under the College of Arts and Social Sciences (CASS). The said program is designed for students who did not reach the cut-off score in the MSU System Scholarship and Admission Examination (SASE) in the different regular courses offered in the Institute. At the same time this is also a form of community service of the Institute because it offers quality education at a very affordable price. Tuition fee is comparatively lower than the other school and colleges. Students are given the chance to be admitted as a regular student after finishing the program depending on one.s ability to cope with the academic demands of the Institute and the availability of slots in the degree program one wishes to get into. The program has the following basic features:
- The cut-off SASE score is 50. If the slots for the first year are not filled at a target date, the cut-off score may be lowered under certain conditions. Basic of these conditions are the high school final grades in English, Mathematics, and Science which must not be lower than 80 as reflected in the high school card or Form 138;
- The tuition fee is P150 per teaching unit. Tuition and other fees must be paid in full upon enrollment (approximately P3520.00 for incoming freshmen, excluding student organization fees);
- Classes are regularly held at 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM on MTh and TF schedules and 4:00 PM to 9:00 PM on WS time slots (except at CSM which holds classes in the morning of W). Change of schedules, upon availability of classrooms, shall first be approved by proper authorities upon recommendation by the chairs of the service departments concerned;
- One must finish the two-year SGENP before he/she is qualified for admission in any regular degree program. However, after only 1 year in the SGENP, a student may be allowed to get admission in any diploma courses at the SET.
The faculty members of this program come from different department of CASS and other colleges. A General Education student takes a total of 80 units under the program. A total of 48 units are regular offerings in CASS. The rest are from CSM (12 units), CBA (3 units), CSC (3 units), CED (8 units) and NSTP (6 units).
