Admissions

Undergraduate Program

Each department sets its own cut-off score in the System-wide Admission and Scholarship Examination (SASE). To be admitted into any program, freshmen and transferees have to obtain a minimum required score in Language Usage (LU) and Numerical Ability (NA). Whenever there are available slots, shifters may also be accepted provided that they obtain a grade of 2.00 or better in both English 1 and Math 1 and provided further that their GPA is not less than 3.00. Interviews shall also be conducted among applicants. For those coming from institutions outside the MSU system, they shall pass the SASE for transferees. They should pass the interview.

For Entrpreneurial Marketing Program, freshmen must also obtain the minimum required scores in Science (Sci) and Aptitude (TA). Whenever there are available slots, shifters may also be accepted provided that they obtain a grade of 2.00 or better in both English 1 and Math 1 or a grade point average of 2.00 or better in all English and Math subjects taken and provided further that their GPA is not less than 3.00.

Shifters and transferees shall be required to present appropriate credentials such as Evaluation sheet duly signed by the previous academic year adviser/certificate of Courses taken or Transcript of Record for Transferees as basis for evaluation and admission. Other requirements may be announced by the university thru the appropriate offices.

A student fails in either subject shall be ineligible to continue in the program and shall be advised to shift.

The Economics program requires a passing grade in Econ 1, Econ 60 and Econ 61. The Entreprenurial Marketing program requires a passing grade in Mktg 101, 102 and 103.

  1. A student may be given for a grade lower than 2.0 in any of the core elective courses, however, only grades of 2.0 or better would be credited toward major or specialized course as a substitute. The 2.0 substituted course will be credited as an elective course.
  2. A student who fails to get a weighted average grade of 2.0 or better for two successive trimesters will be advised to withdraw from the program.

Academic Calendar

CBAA follows the semestral Academic Calendar approved by the MSU Board of Regents. Each semester consists of approximately 18 weeks with about 2 weeks of semestral break between them.

The semester is divided into three grading periods of approximately 6 weeks each. These are the First Preliminary Period, Second Preliminary Period and Final Period. Examinations and grades are given at the end of each grading period.

Academic Load

A full-time undergraduate student is one who carries a regular semestral load as specified in the semestral distribution of courses in their respective programs which ranges from 6-22 units. On the other hand, a full-time graduate student carries 6-12 units.

An undergraduate student may not be allowed to carry a regular semestral load if his previous semester GPA will be lower than 3.00.

Grading System

CBAA adopts the MSU System numerical grading system (please see table below). The cumulative computation of grades is utilized for each grading period.

Except for MS courses, all grades are included in the computation of semestral or cumulative GPA. The semestral GPA refers to the weighted average grades in all courses, taken at the Institute in a given semester; the cumulative GPA refers to the weighted average of grades in all courses taken by the students at MSU-IIT.

Grades obtained for courses taken from other colleges/universities will be credited depending on the department policies of granting advancbaa credits; provided, at least 75% of courses in a degree program shall be taken by the student at the Institute.

Grading System

1.00 – 1.25 = Excellent
1.50 – 1.75 = Very Good
2.00 – 2.25 = Good
2.50 – 2.75 = Satisfactory
3.00 = Passing
5.00 = Failure
Inc. = Incomplete
In progress = For 199 courses only
P = Passed

Semestral Honors

Superior scholastic achievement by students is recognized through the posting of the Dean’s List at the CBAA bulletin boards every semester of each school year. To qualify for the Dean’s List, a student should –

  1. Carry at least the regular course load for a particular semester as specified in the curriculum of the degree program he is enrolled in;
  2. Not have any failure or its equivalent in any course;
  3. Have a GPA of 1.75 or better;
