Tokyo raves IPAG collaboration
Theater director and critic Kamaluddin Nilu of the Dhaka-based Center for Asian Theater sums it up when he asserts that, “this is the best Ramayana version I have seen.” The same glowing reviews have lighted the showcase marquee of the collaborative post-modern production of the Iligan-based Integrated Performing Arts Guild (IPAG) and the Sovanna Phum of Phnom Penn

IPAG resident company of the MSU-Iligan Institute of Technology representing the Philippines joined over 50 other theater and dance artists in the Asia Meets Asia Theater Festival in Tokyo from October 16 to 23 where groups from the U.S., Afghanistan, Kyrgyzstan, Cambodia, Amman, Tokyo, Bangladesh, and Hong Kong shared theater and their dramaturgies. IPAG makes cultural history in PMA
The Philippine Military Academy had a cultural 'encounter' last October 1 when the IPAG performed for the academy upon the invitation of its Superintendent. IPAG is the first cultural group to ever perform for the PMA. A packed gymnasium of officers, foreign military guests, cadets, and their families gave the IPAG a rousing standing ovation.

Visibly impressed, Superintendent Lt. Gen.Cristolito P. Balaoing asked all cadets who originally came from the MSU-IIT and Iligan City to come up on stage and be part of this historic occasion of sorts. A number of these cadets were once enrolled in the various colleges of the MSU-IIT.

IPAG Celebrates Iligan San Miguel feast with “Diandi”
“Diandi,” the tribal pact that cements unity among Mindanao communities highlighted the 2005 Iligan Fiesta and Tourism celebrations with IPAG’s Sinulog sa Diandi. IPAG composed several dance and music vignettes that depict the cultures of Iligan to celebrate the feast of the Archangel San Miguel.

Iligan’s life ways find expressions in the city’s folk arts that are performed during fiesta: the sinulog, the all-female dance diandi, and the all-male San Miguel comedia. IPAG performs dances created from the indigenous which reveal the Iliganun spirit and present Iligan’s three communities in harmony.

Actors attend Rasa Box Acting Workshop
Singapore-trained Filimon Blanco shared his craft with IPAG actors in an intensive 2-day workshop at the MSU-IIT last October 30 and 31. The Rasa technique is an Indian-based method where the essence (or rasa) is divided into 9 general emotions or human states, or navarasa. Blanco studied acting for 3 years under various masters in the Theater Training and Research Program of the Practice Performing Arts School. He started his theater career with the MSU Sining Kambayoka and now travels the islands to share his theater knowledge to community theater groups.
