"Sandiwaan" features IPAG
The National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) has selected the IPAG to be one of 12 theater groups nationwide to participate in the Millennium Arts and Culture Festival dubbed Sambayan. “Sambayan” events include traveling exhibits, lectures, forums on indigenous peoples’ concerns, movie showings, and a theater festival called Sandiwaan.

Twelve collaborative productions shall be based on the works of our National Artists or from folk literature sources. Each of these 12 productions will be performed spread out during the whole year in various venues.

The IPAG feature is a deconstruction of Nick Joaquin’s stories where women play pivotal roles. The experimental production is in a dance-opera format with its working title “How the Women of Joaquin Met Lawanen.”  Rehearsals start in June after the Guild’s summer touring schedules. The regional premiere is set September 22 and 23 in Iligan City before IPAG’s national tours in October.

Kudos to IPAG in Iloilo Dance Fest
Iloilo audiences and critics gave their rousing approval to IPAG performances in the recent Iloilo Dance Day festival. IPAG joined leading Philippine dance companies and international participants in the International Dance Day 2000 in April 27-30 in Iloilo City. IPAG opened the 2nd part with its productions of "The Legend of Maria Cristina Falls" and the Maranao-inspired "Kalilang." Similar electric responses greeted IPAG in an out-of-town performance of "The Abduction of Princess Lawanen" in Lambunao, Iloilo last April 27.

The festival is an annual event of the Committee on Dance of the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) and highlights the 10th National Dance Conference and Workshop.

NCCA renews admin support for IPAG
The NCCA continues its support of the repertory programs of the IPAG with an endowment of P200,000.00 to support the administrative operations of the guild. The fund is part of the NCCA support for regional councils and groups and has been granted to the more established companies to strengthen their viability. This is the 2nd year (of a 5-year program) that the NCCA is supporting IPAG. The last grant was in 1998 to assist in the repertory and marketing administration of the Guild’s projects.

IPAG has been recipient of various grants, both for creative productions and management. These grants are highly competitive and involves the participation of many groups and individuals all over the country.
