More to expect in IPAG's 27th Season
After gathering close to 70,000 audiences in the last season,
IPAG expects to enthral more audiences nationwide when it mounts extensive touring performances in all three geographic regions.
IPAG’s 27th Season highlights “Tatlo Sa Isa” (Three People in One Island), sequel to the widely appreciated “Tales From Mindanao.”

Over fifty performances in sites North to South of the Archipelago will host these dance-story productions that will move on the road from July to December. Performances will be presented in the Cagayan Valley, Ilocos, La Union, Nueva Ecija, Nueva Vizcaya,
Pampanga, Bulacan, Laguna, Batangas, Bicol, Iloilo, Tacloban, Tagbilaran,
Bacolod, Cebu, Bohol, and in various cities in Mindanao.

The tours are also part of Mindanao’s cultural action program -- designed by Mindulani, the active Mindanao theater network -- which aims to bring theater performances to as many Mindanao audiences as possible.  IPAG
has been in the forefront of increasing theater awareness in these parts. Tatlo” is a collection of stories, dances and music from Mindanao, including vignettes from the Maranao epic darangen, and dance stories from the Tala-andig, Maguindanon, and TauSug, among others.

“Tatlo” premieres in Davao City in July 9 at the CAP Auditorium and performs in various theaters thereafter in Manila. It also highlights Region 10 in the Best of the Philippines representing Lanao del Norte in August 14 in the Dept. of Tourism’s “Wow Philippines” in Intramuros.

Ming Ming continues to amaze
'Ming Ming,' Steven P.C. Fernandez' post modern play about three generations of a Moro family in crises continues to draw acclamations from critics and audiences. After its triumphant SRO premiere at the Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP) Tanghalang Huseng Batute last February, critics have been hailing this piece a standout in Philippine theater.

Jam-packed theaters greeted the play in its Davao date last May 1 at the CAP Auditorium. The play was also remounted for Iligan audiences on the occasion of the 11th National Writers Workshop in April 26 and a Toyota Foundation event in May 30 at its resident venue, the CASS Rooftop Theater.

Cagayan de Oro City hosts "Ming Ming" in July 12 (3:00 and 7:30 p.m. shows) at the Grand Caprice beside the Lim Ket Kai Center. Schedules are set for a regional tour of Bulacan and Manila in October and November.

CCP Outreach celebrates 25th year with IPAG
The acclaimed "Datu Matu," perhaps the only full-length Mindanaon musical on the Moro-American wars, joins outstanding Mindanao groups that will celebrate the Outreach Program of the CCP. Written by Saturnina Rodil and directed by Steven Fernandez, "Datu Matu" narrates of the start of the American occupation of Lanao after 1903. The play will be merged with other significant Mindanao plays to relate the island's struggles against colonization and its own internal conflicts. The CCP Outreach has been in the forefront of national cultural programs that have benefited regional theater, among these being the IPAG. The 2nd National Theater Festival in 1996 featured "Datu Matu."

"Ranaw" featured in 3rd National Festival
In its third participation in as many outings in the National Festival , IPAG presents the acclaimed "Ranaw: Isang Alamat."  This musical catapulted the guild to national fame when the CCP sponsored its national tours in 1987 and 1988. The play won third prize in the 1985 CCP Playwriting Contest and is considered "a major work in Philippine Theater" (critique by Nicanor Tiongson).

"Ranaw," a musical on the exploits of the Mindanao folk hero Bato Lakungan, goes onstage Nov. 11 at the CCP Tanghalang Aurelio Tolentino (Little Theater).
