SRO IN IPAG HOMECOMING
Two standing-room-only audiences greeted the IPAG homecoming concerts last October 7 at the MSU-IIT gym. IPAG presented an all-folkloric program, part of its repertoire in its recent Europe performances. A dance-vignette of events and persons in history opened the concert and signified the Centennial theme of the production.

Mindanao tales fascinate Europe
Long curtain calls punctuated the recent performance tours of the IPAG in Europe. The company represented the Philippines in various festivals and performance photoevents in France, Spain and Portugal from August 5 to September 7. Bringing its signature ballet Mindanao dance idiom based on the pangalay, IPAG delighted critics and audiences with its dance-narratives collective titled "Tales From Mindanao."

Festival organizers have signified their commitments to again invite the IPAG to tours iin their 1999 programs.

IPAG cancels US-Canada tours
The economic crises and the transition government effected IPAG'S  cancellation of its North American performances. With confirmed bookings in Winnipeg, Toronto, and the Ontario cities, and participation in the international Festival in Michigan, IPAG had to forego this first leg of its world tour prior to its commitments in Europe. Exacerbating the situation were the PAL strikes, imbroglio in government funding agencies, refusal of travel agencies to allow credit, and conflicts among the officials of the transition administration.

The Europe leg continued with support from the Cultural Center of the Philippines.

Season offerings for 1998
Touring dance-music productions highlight the IPAG repertory season this year.

The "Tales From Mindanao" saga sets for regional and international tours. This same production has represented the country in various performance events abroad.

IPAG premieres its latest neo-ethnic dance-story from the Maranao epic Darangan, "The Abduction of  Princess Lawanen" in January 21, 1999.

A remounting of the musicale "Datu Matu" is set in the middle of next year.

Local and regional tours also present Centennial-related concerts.

A recital of new dance works capped  the 1998 Summer Performing Arts workshops at the MSU-IIT in May 3. The summer workshops started March 23.

Drama students hold art exhibits
Stagecraft, Dramatics, and Humanities students cap their semester's course with an art installation exhibit entitled "Imbulog ng  Imahinasyon." Promising to be a night of dynamic creativity among the institute's young artists, "Imbulong" features award-winning poet Ralph Semino Galan, artist of the IPAG and now literature teacher in the UST. Highlights of the program are exhibits of stage miniatures, costumes, and a dance performance of the IPAG.

Wilven Pinili choreographs and is faculty adviser. Dean of the College of Arts and Social Science is Prof. Evelyn Jamboy.

"Imbulong" goes onstage October 19, 6:00 p.m. in the CASS lawn.
