“… quick, well-paced dialog,… teasing and painful, … frank and full of ironies, Fernandez has successfully set its irony in high relief….” CHRISTINE GODINEZ-ORTEGA, Bak2Bak: ‘Babuyan Island’ and ‘Isa Pang Kawing,’ The Philippine Daily Inquirer, March 12, 2006. |

Two partners, two lives, and two stories. Bak2Bak is a twin bill of new one-act plays: Babuyan Island by three-time Palanca-winner German Gervacio and Isa Pang Kawing by IPAG Artistic Director Steven Patrick C. Fernandez. These plays peep into artificial relationships between odd couples who, after some uneasy coping, acknowledge their awkward predicaments. In a sense, both plays are black comedies as they poke fun at —what otherwise many consider to be — sacred institutions: marriage, death, and family. But in these twists and miscalculations, the lives of the two pairs of unlikely partners merge and in their opposites, they come to terms with the resolve to continue to live their awkward lives.

[Bak2Bak is the lab arena of Fernandez’s Stagecraft class. Apprentices in production work together with the professional team of the IPAG that provides the technical and logistic support to the production.]
