Art festivals celebrate the Centennial
Pagdiriwang '98 kicks off the Cultural Center
of the Philippines' flagship projects for the Centennial. Films, theater,
dance, puppet, choral, music, and poetry performances showcase Filipino
culture that started February 5 in the CCP complex.
A whole year's offering of festivals and cultural fare
mark the CCP celebrations including a world folklore festival, Centennial
Arts Festival, International Theater Festival, Concert series, exhibits,
and the launching of the CCP Encyclopedia in CD-ROM, among many others.

NCCA holds Natl Arts Month
The National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA)
presents a variety of cultural events for February, the annual arts festival
month. Exhibits, art festivals, film showings, musical performances, and
concerts are major projects coordinated with the Cultural Center of the
Philippines, the Philippine Educational theater Association, government
agencies, and various cultural groups.

Iligan writers workshop opens grants
The Iligan National Writers Workshop (INWW) calls on
interested creative writers and literature teachers to apply for fellowship
to its 1998 workshop and literature conference. Generous grants await
successful applicants to one of the country's leading creative writing
centers. Distinguished writers and teachers make up the panel of the workshop
that will be held in the third week of April in Iligan City. The INWW is
supported by the NCCA and the MSU-IIT.

IPAG announces 1998 season
Southern Philippines' leading repertory company, the
Integrated Performing Arts Guild (IPAG) has announced its repertory and
training offerings for this year. Its "Tales From Mindanao" saga continues
with new works that will be toured during the whole year. "Tales" is also
set for international
performances in North America and Europe. Datu
Matu, its offering for the Centennial, will tour in November.
A new play premieres in September in Iligan. New dance works will be presented
in a recital in May 1 and 2 before the "Tales" kick-off performances in
may 7, 8, and 9. Courses in dance and theater will also be offered starting
March 23.

Ilocos Sur, Feb. 19-21
Concerts

concerts in various venues around Metro Manila, Feb. 21-22 and 27-28 featuring
various dance troupes, the Philippine Philharmonic Orchestra, Ballet Manila,
Kontra-gapi, Pundaquit Chamber Players, UST Symphony Orchestra, Bayang
Barrios, Joey Ayala, among many others.
