Three generations of a powerful Maranao family dodge the forces that threaten their survival. Mired in the conflicts of religious fanaticism, tradition, and the contradictions of “Modern Living,” the family copes with the changing conditions, where tradition and religious fanaticism clash with liberal styles of the West.

a play by STEVEN PATRICK C. FERNANDEZ

production

The play’s theme is a sensitive rendering of the conflict among politically-powerful Moro families: the need to cope with the changing conditions to survive, where tradition and religious fanaticism clash with the liberal ideas of the West.

While overlaid with a romantic plot, the ramifications of its meanings extend to Moro history, feudal politics, women issues, and much more, depending on how the audience may view the play. The play invites a gamut of meanings as it is structured in a non-linear manner. Images, sounds, gestures, color, and other symbolic actions piece a collage of conflict and resolutions. Dialogues  do not meet, characters do not talk to each other, and each person recreates separate time and space in the same stage simultaneously.

Dance, visuals, crisp
orchestration of movements, innovative direction, and meaningful storytelling in “Ming Ming“ are the same features of IPAG productions that have established the Guild's reputation as a trailblazer that experiments with new forms.
