'Origami' premieres
'Origami,' a transcreation of the eponymous Marjorie Evasco poem, previewed at the opening of the 15th Iligan National Writers Workshop last May 26. Using traditional Noh movements merged with contemporary dance and the IPAG signature pangalay in a sparse setting, the dance vignette is part of a series of performed poetry by southern writers which the IPAG will adapt into multi-media in a full-length concert in February 2009. 'Origami' performed to a select audience of writing fellows and the distinguished writers' panel of one of three of the more prestigious writing workshops in the Philippines. The piece was directed by Steven Patrick C. Fernandez (who also wrote its scenario and original music based on traditional Japanese instruments), choreographed by Leilani Monterola-Fernandez, and performed by the IPAG dance ensemble. |
