[“IPAG”: the Philippines on fire
In the festival hall, more than 200 spectators watched the show of the Philippine group “IPAG,” on tour in France. The Philippines, in Southeast Asia, composes 7081 islands and islets covering the length of 2000 km from North to South with a total land area of 300,000 square kms, and a population of approximately 75M inhabitants, but only 880 islands are inhabited.

“IPAG” originates from the second larger island, Mindanao, located at the South, the first large island being Luzon in the North. It has toured France four years ago, and in July 5 was in Monaco to perform the same show in front of Prince Rainier (note: Prince Albert), as it did in the opening of the World Cup in Korea.

Composed of 16 artists, including five musicians, it stirred (the audience) in more than two hours with a colorful program, superb costumes, and dancers moving with grace. The rich program evoked the earth, wind, fire, and water, elements in fusion with the life of man and the people of Mindanao, then the flight of birds in movements, and the bodies and the hands that imitate the graceful undulations of the sea which represents the life of a community.

(In the program) were a Spanish dance, a reenactment of people and the gulls that attended sinners, inhabitants celebrating the feast of San Agustin in “Karatong,” a hawk that catches its prey then is hunted down by the hunters. Sixteen tableaus make up this show sponsored by the office of tourism.]
