about a legendary bird who refuses to heed tradition. Adapted from the
Maranao symbol of wealth and prestige for the contemporary theater.
First produced in 1981 and has
since been performed on national tours. A 1988 Production Grant Awardee
of the CCP.
Accepted a fellowship entry in the
1986 U.P. National Writers Workshop and subsequently winning 3rd place
in the U.P. Likhaan.
Synopsis
Sarimanok's
duty is to feed the flock in the legendary land called Bayang Lawa. Flying
is forbidden but a new friend Ibon convinces her. The elders find out and
punishment is dealt her.
